Apparently, one can’t exist without the other, and it chokes Alex, opening a cavity in her chest that claws at her lungs and inclining up her windpipe in gradual, painful twists. She hates this fear, cold and unsettling, the way it clings to the memories and the secrets that she so desperately seeks to hold close to her chest.
